The first picture shows what the castle looked like before all the towers were built. The other pictures show how the 19th century castle looked in 1999. A hurricane ravaged the Dordogne four days after we signed the deed. So many old trees had fallen in the park that we decided to start with the park and the outside walls of this castle.
You can see the result here. We also built a new swimming pool with bar and sauna.
The old castle
The gardener’s residence (maison de gardien) actually consisted of a downstairs flat and an upstairs flat. The upstairs flat was fully renovated. Five luxurious rooms were built. The downstairs flat has been into two hotel apartments.
The gîte in Brouillac dates from 1819. We renovated it as one of the first projects for the rental. There was also a baking house behind it, which was in such a deplorable state that we only left the base and converted it into a terrace with barbeque. A new swimming pool was also built here.
The photos above are of the gîte in Rivailles. This was originally a small and sombre maison. It has become a light residence by adding extra windows and by converting the built-in garage into a spacious bedroom with casement doors leading out to the terrace. We also added a covered terrace with a swimming pool. Since the garage was dilapidated, we replaced it with a perigordan annex, handy for the garden chairs, mountain bikes, barbeque, etc.
A nice little farm in Bruyere. The original stables are also intact. A castle yard has been constructed with sycamores and the adjoining garden will be planted. This farm is inhabited by Essendiéras employees.
Next to the Maison the Maitre we have constructed a private swimmingpool and we also arranged the garden.

This old drying shed is currently being made suitable as a gîte for the disabled.
Nowadays all of the 9 pavillons are renovated.
The former house of our chickens has been transformed into hotel-appartments.
The hangar has been demolished and made place for a brandnew tennis court.
